Copyright
NoteStand helps the ensemble keep track of the rights of its repertoire: the status of each work, that of each shared score, and the lists to send after a concert. This information is declarative: it helps you get organised, but does not replace the rules of SACEM, SEAM or the publisher.
In a shared space, managers fill in the rights.
Entering the authors of a piece
In the piece’s details, “Edit title” (“Title and composer”) holds the composer and the “Lyricist”: they identify the work for SACEM. The “Arranger” and the “Publisher or source” are entered for each score, in “Copyright”.
Declaring the status of a work and its scores
In the piece’s details, tap the “Rights” row to open “Copyright”:
“The work”
- “Public domain”: composer and lyricist died more than 70 years ago;
- “Protected”: at least one author is alive, or died less than 70 years ago;
- “I don’t know”: the piece will be flagged “to check”.
“The scores”: for each PDF or interactive score of the piece, set:
- the “Kind of document”: “Score”, “Lyrics” or “Other” (rehearsal plan, instructions…: nothing to declare);
- the “Status of this score”: “Free edition” (CPDL, IMSLP, OpenScore…, or an engraving by the ensemble of a public-domain work), “Purchased edition”, “Authorisation obtained”, “A member’s own work” or “I don’t know”;
- the “Original copies owned” and “Details” (licence, authorisation reference, invoice…).
NoteStand records who made the declaration and when. The “Rights” row of the details flags what is left to declare.
The space register
“Space settings” › “Copyright” gathers the declarations of the whole repertoire:
- “Register”: one row per shared score, with its status, who declared it and when. Undeclared scores come first. “Download the register (spreadsheet)” exports it.
- “Shared editions”: the scores from purchased or authorised editions shared in the space (what SEAM is about), with the number of pages per person and alerts, for example when the ensemble owns fewer originals than there are readers.
After a concert: the programme of works
On a concert’s page, the “Copyright (SACEM)” block:
- reminds you to declare the concert to SACEM before the date shown, as soon as a protected work is performed, even for free;
- reminds you to send the programme of works within 10 days after the concert;
- offers a shortcut to the SACEM website.
“Programme of works” opens the list to send, in performance order: titles, authors, arrangers, publishers and durations. A piece played twice (an encore) counts twice. Incomplete pieces are flagged: tap a row to open the piece and complete it. Export the list with “Copy the list”, “Download (spreadsheet)” or “Download (PDF)”.
