Programmes and run mode
A programme is an ordered sequence of pieces and non-piece items (announcements, intermission…): the programme of a concert, a rehearsal, a service. Run mode then steps through it on screen, item by item.
The programmes of the space are in the “Programmes” tab. In a shared space, only managers edit them; members view and run them.
Creating a programme
- In “Programmes”, tap “New programme”, name it, then “Save”.
- Tap “+ Add an item”.
- Search for a piece (“Search a piece…”) and tap “Add”: it is added at the end of the programme.
- Under “Non-piece item”, add an “Announcement”, an “Intermission”, a “Move” or an “Other” item if needed.
Drag the items to change their order. The programme’s total duration is worked out from the durations of the pieces and items.
Adapting a piece for this programme
Tap a programme item to set it up, without changing the piece itself:
- “Document shown for this concert”: the document that opens in the run (by default, the piece’s);
- “Key for this concert”: “The piece’s” or “Adapted” (raise or lower one semitone at a time);
- “Tempo for this concert”: the piece’s, or another one;
- “Planned duration”;
- for a non-piece item: its title and its “Content” (welcome words, introduction…);
- “Show in the audience programme” / hide from it (see Concerts).
“Open the sheet” opens the piece; “Remove from programme” takes the item out (the piece stays in the repertoire).
Assigning parts to musicians
In a shared space, a programme’s “Parts” tab (next to “Pieces”) shows a musicians × pieces grid. By default, each musician has the part matching their section; a manager can assign another one on a given piece, or set a whole section at once. The grid can be shown “By piece” or “By member”; “Reset all to default” clears the choices made for this programme.
The musician finds this part as “My part” in the run: starting note, highlighted staff and document. The sections need to be organised first.
Duplicating, locking, deleting
A programme’s “More actions” menu offers:
- “Rename”;
- “Duplicate”: a copy, to prepare a variant;
- “Lock”: freezes the order, the content and the adaptations, for example the day before a concert. Run mode stays available. “Unlock” to edit again;
- “Open in my stand”: opens all its pieces in My stand;
- “Delete”: deletes the programme permanently; the pieces stay in the repertoire. A locked programme must be unlocked first.
Starting run mode
Tap “Run” on a programme (or “Open the run” from a concert). The run opens in “Stage mode”: dark background, dimmed brightness, larger buttons.
At the top, only the current item’s title, “Tools” and “Full screen” (which hides the bars), plus the cross to quit the run.
The bottom bar is for navigating:
- “Previous” and “Next” to change item;
- “Programme” (with the position, e.g. 3 / 12) opens the list of items, to jump straight to one of them.
On a tablet, the bottom bar also shows the parts’ starting notes, “Chord”, “Arpeggio” and the tempo (see Giving the starting notes, chord and tempo), and “Listen” for an interactive score. On a phone, they are in “Tools”.
The run tools
The “Tools” panel is the same as in My stand, plus the run’s own settings:
- “Read”: the “Document” shown, “My part” (the part you sing or play; “View as” on a shared device), “Highlight my part”, “Staves shown”, annotations and zoom;
- “Hear”: the starting notes with “Chord” and “Arpeggio”, “Play the score” and “Parts heard” for an interactive score, the “Chromatic pitch pipe”;
- “Change”: “Transpose” for this session;
- “Run”: “Stage mode”, “Shared device” and “Only my note” (the start buttons play only your note; Chord and Arpeggio always play every part).
Your part choice stays on this device.
One device for several musicians
The first time, NoteStand may ask: “Do several musicians look at this device at the same time?”. Answer “Yes, several” for a shared tablet: no part is highlighted and the score shows for everyone. Answer “No, just me” to see your part highlighted. You can change your mind in the run tools or in “Space settings” › “Ensemble” › “Shared device”.
Using a pedal or a keyboard
A Bluetooth page-turn pedal works like a keyboard:
- down arrow, right arrow or Page Down: next PDF page, then next item at the last page;
- up arrow, left arrow or Page Up: go back;
- Escape: leaves full screen, then the run.
Leaving the run
Tap the exit button at the top, then confirm “Leave” (or “Stay”). This confirmation stops a stray tap from dropping the whole group out of the run in the middle of a concert.
