Getting started
Opening NoteStand for the first time
The first time you open it, NoteStand asks you to create your account. It is free; it lets us reach you and opens shared spaces to you. See Creating an account. If you already have an account, tap “I already have an account”.
Once you are signed in, NoteStand asks “How will you use it?”.
- To discover the app on your own, on this device, tap “Get started” under “On this device” (“To try it out”). Name your space (“What is it called?”), then tap “Create the space”. The content of a local space never leaves your device.
- If your conductor invited you, open the link you received by e-mail: see Joining a space by invitation.
Your repertoire lives in a space. To understand the difference between a local space and a shared space, see Spaces.
Finding your way around
- Top left, the space pill shows the name of the open space. Tap the name to switch space; tap the settings icon to the right of the pill to open “Space settings”.
- Top right, the “Account” menu (your avatar) shows whether you are signed in and gives access to the app “Settings” (account, audio and display, language, calibration, storage).
- The tabs lead to the four main areas: “Repertoire”, “My stand”, “Programmes” and “Concerts”.
Installing NoteStand as an app
Once installed, NoteStand opens full screen from your home screen and works offline like a real app. Your data is also better protected (see Offline and storage).
On iPhone or iPad (Safari)
- Open NoteStand in Safari.
- Tap the Share button at the bottom of Safari (at the top on iPad).
- Scroll down, then choose “Add to Home Screen”.
- Confirm: NoteStand appears on your home screen.
The “Install NoteStand” banner shown in the app recalls these steps (“How?”).
On Android or a computer (Chrome, Edge)
When the browser allows it, NoteStand shows the “Install NoteStand” banner: tap “Install”. You can also use the browser’s own install command (⋮ menu › “Install app”, or the install icon in the address bar).
Calibrating the screen
NoteStand shows lyrics at a real size, in millimetres, so that they stay readable a metre away from the stand. To do that, it needs to know the exact size of your screen.
- Open the “Account” menu › “Settings” › “Screen calibration”.
- Lay a real bank card on the screen.
- Drag the right edge of the rectangle until its width exactly matches the card.
- Tap “Save the calibration”.
A check line lets you verify the result with a ruler. As long as the screen isn’t calibrated, a “Calibrate your screen” banner may appear; tap “Calibrate” to go straight there, or “Dismiss”.
Calibration is specific to each device.
Audio, display and language
In “Settings”:
- “Audio & display”: the timbre of the starting notes, how long a note lasts, the gap between arpeggio notes, the default playback instruments for interactive scores (“Recorded” or “Synthesised”), the notation (“Do Re Mi” or “C D E”) and the theme (“Auto”, “Dark”, “Light”).
- “Language”: the interface language.
When you are signed in, these settings follow your account on all your devices. To set up one device on its own, turn on “Use this device’s settings” at the top of the settings page.
